Hyun Jeong (Grace) Kim is a registered clinical psychologist who trained at the University of Auckland and graduated with Doctor of Clinical Psychology in 2007.
She and her family immigrated to New Zealand in 1998. Having lived in several countries including Korea, Thailand, Laos, Spain, and the UAE, she has a strong personal and professional interest in supporting individuals from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Her clinical background includes work at an adult community mental health center in DHB and private practice. In South Korea, she provided psychological services to expats—primarily U.S. military personnel and their families. She worked in university settings (Handong Global University) for six years as a full-time and part-time lecturer.
She has worked with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, grief, low sense of worth, trauma, relationship difficulties, adjustment difficulties, and/or other mental health related difficulties.
She takes an eclectic approach to therapy, tailoring interventions to meet each client’s unique needs. Her primary therapeutic modalities include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She also incorporates self-compassion, mindfulness, and trauma related models into her practice.
With a gentle and collaborative approach, she strives to encourage individuals to take courageous steps in challenging their thoughts and ways of life, cultivating a more authentic and empowering life.
