Asha, meaning ‘hope’ in Hindi, is the name of Asian Family Services’ new support service for South Asians living in New Zealand.
The service was started in response to an increasing number of South Asians presenting for help with gambling problems.
Asha’s counselling and support is free of charge, completely confidential and is available for anyone impacted by harmful gambling – that includes the person gambling and anyone else who is being impacted by someone else’s gambling such as a family member, friend or other.
Our counsellor speaks Hindi and will provide support that is culturally appropriate for the South Asian population.
Alongside the counselling work, Asha will focus on raising awareness about the harm caused by gambling, letting people know there is help out there, and how it really does help to talk about it.
Listen to Humm FM in mid-March to hear our radio advertisement and Asha’s counsellor will feature in the talk show discussing harmful gambling.
